Okay tumblr i need some opinions

my roommate and I are thinking of getting a pet. a small furry mammal pet

So far the things we are considering are: gerbil, hamster, guinea pig, rabbit, hedgehog, mouse, rat

The less smelly and less noisy the better. Really, we can work with smell a little bit because that can be mostly taken care of with regular cleaning, but the pet HAS to be very very quiet. I say this because I remember my old guinea pig was REALLY REALLY noisy at night, and that level of noise would not work at all for our current living situation. Technically we are not supposed to have a pet…but no one really enforces this rule unless the pet becomes a nuisance…which is what loud noise would do. And smell, if it is too extreme. Again, that is more manageable, but that rules out like…ferret level of stink.

We will be able to give it lots of attention and, if necessary, floor time.

So, does anyone have any suggestions? I’d like something that could be held and would like attention.  I am really interested in a rat, but my roommate is more hesitant about that. Also pretty interested in a rabbit (probably a dwarf one?), but I know very little about them. We are both interested in a hedgehog, but that’s more expensive.

Thanks.
